How to Create a Winter Wonderland Wedding
For this week’s behind-the-design, I’m taking you through our incredible New Year’s Eve celebration in the South of France, where we created an over-the-top winter wedding celebration. In 5 ways, I break down the different parts of the wedding where we created an authentic winter wedding event design.
There were so many design milestones for this event, and we needed to create something unique for each. We started off with the church decor, as the couple wanted white orchid trees, inspired by Sophia Vergara’s wedding in Miami. We used this as the central theme for all other aspects of the event design.
White Church Decor - we created an all-white church ceremony by using four white birch trees and adding cascading white orchids across the top. We then added a plush white carpet across the entire length of the aisle and lined every pew with 3-tiers of candle clusters. This created a dreamy, ‘floating on the clouds’ effect as the bride walked down the aisle. We flew in floral designer, David Kimmel, from Dallas, Texas, to help us conceptualize the size, height, and weight of the trees, as well as how we were going to create a cascading floral effect for the ceremony. Side note: we also wanted to repurpose the trees for the outdoor cake cutting.
White Wedding Cake - We put on a huge firework production for the outdoor cake cutting, and we reused the trees from the ceremony and had them on either side of the white wedding cake. The wedding cake had sugar flowers, mimicking the white rose arrangements used for the wedding reception.
White Wedding Flowers - To create the winter wonderland theme indoors, we used white roses, white hydrangea, and white orchids all in one arrangement. We suspended white roses and candles from each of the arrangements, and we added crystal candelabras throughout the tables to add height as well as candlelight to the celebration.
White Drapery and White Lighting - To create a dramatic white winter wedding effect, we draped the entire room white and lined the wall with a white wash color to enhance the white decor. We used shimmery white linens across the table to reflect the white wash from the lighting and to glisten amongst the candles. Each clear, lucite chair was complemented with a white chair back to continue adding to the white theme.
Place Settings - To add a pop of color on the tables, we used silver as the accent color along the chargers and flatware, and to complement the crystal candelabras, we used crystal stemware on all the place settings. On the menus, we lined the edges with a gilded silver edge and added silver foil along the top to highlight the couple’s names.
As you can see, every single layer and event design detail was considered when creating a white winter wedding celebration. Tell us what you think in the comments below, and ask us a question for our next “Dear Lauren” blog!
