How to Postpone Your Wedding
If you are getting married in 2020, chances are you’ve had the conversation of postponing your wedding. No need to fear, LLG is here to help you postpone! Follow the 5 Steps to Postpone Your Wedding below!
1. Reach out to your venue
Find out what dates are available in 2021-2022 and which dates are available for you to postpone to. Review your contracts and see what your vendors' cancellation policy/force majeure policy entails, as some venues may choose not to postpone your wedding until you are within force majeure.
2. Send your vendor team a doodle
Outline all the dates available at your venue. Let your vendors select the dates they are available and see which dates overlap. Rebook a date that works for most of your vendors, or at least the core team of vendors you absolutely must-have.
3. Update your vendor contracts
When rebooking your wedding date, update your vendor contracts to include “pandemic” and COVID-19 within their force majeure clauses. Your initial deposit and payments should apply to the rebooked date to avoid and minimize financial losses.
4. Get wedding insurance
See if they will cover future COVID-19 related claims. Otherwise, negotiate in your contracts at least one additional postponement with your vendors, even if that means you have to pay additional. We’ve been using: Eventsured
5. Notify your wedding guests
Once your date change is confirmed, create a wedding website to communicate with guests. Send out either a digital invite or create a ‘save-the-new-date’ announcement card designed by your stationery vendor that includes access to your wedding website where guests can find more updates and information.
